Kaohsiung's Modern Beginning: #November29 #KaohsiungRailwayDay
On November 29, 1900, the "Takao-Tainan" section of the north-south railway officially commenced operations. The original "Takao Station" was located around today's Gushan 1st Road, Lane 87. As transportation demands grew, along with land reclamation and urban planning, the station expanded into what is now the Old Takao Railway Museum, marking the beginning of Kaohsiung's urban development.
The connection of railways and harbors not only spurred the prosperity of Hamasen and Yancheng but also transformed Kaohsiung from a small fishing village into Taiwan's key logistics hub. Today, remnants of the #HamasenRailwayPark, including tracks and historic buildings, continue to honor Kaohsiung's proud history.
This year marks the 124th anniversary of the Takao railway's opening and the 100th anniversary of Kaohsiung's city establishment. Today, we celebrate Kaohsiung Railway Day, and starting tomorrow, the Coastal Line Tourist Train "#HamasenLine" is ready to set off! We've prepared an array of exciting activities to welcome everyone back to the Hamasen Railway Park and write a new chapter in Kaohsiung's railway story.
